Green Traveler Guide to Hawaii

As was discussed at the recent HTA Tourism Conference in August, more travelers are eco-conscious and are interested in visiting destinations and supporting businesses who make real efforts to decreasing our carbon footprint.  Today in the “Hawaii Insider” blog by Jeanne Cooper (SFGate.com) she posted an article about a new Green Traveler Guide to Hawaii.

The new guide, which is in digital form (to save paper/trees) highlights the Hyatt Kauai for having recently installed solar panels on their covered employee parking lot.  A B & B property on Oahu is also featured for their efforts in protecting the environment.  In addition to organizing beach clean ups the B & B is  1) located within walking distance to a County bus stop, 2) The owners are committed to recycling  3) they serve organic locally grown produce and  4) they use non-toxic cleaning supplies.

Are there ways that you can make your small Hawaii business more eco-friendly?  I bet there are and in so doing you will appeal to the growing number of visitors to the Islands who want to support businesses who make this commitment.  If you’re hard pressed to find ideas on going “green” then start by purchasing the guide to learn what others are doing.

For more information or to purchase your own digital copy of the Green Traveler Guide for Kauai by Two Bridges Press of San Francisco, visit the SFGate.com article for a list of retailers.  If you are already implementing eco-friendly measures into your business, consider writing to the authors of the guide to  request that your small business be considered for inclusion into the guide.
