If you have a business or a store front and haven’t taken advantage of Facebook yet, you might want to add that to your list of things to do before the year is out. To read my earlier post on building a Facebook profile and business page, click here.
You’ll need a personal Facebook profile to be able to build a Facebook business/store page. Once your Facebook page is created you can ask your friends on Facebook to become a fan of your business page. You can then use Facebook to communicate creatively with your fans/subscribers and make it easy for them to connect with you and help spread the word about your business/products to others.
The following link provides a list of applications and suggestions for getting the most out of Facebook for your business.

I work with Facebook Pages quite a bit, and have noticed that it is difficult to get viewers to press the ‘BECOME A FAN’ button. I’ve always thought that the word ‘fan’ is a little misleading, I would rather have had it say something like ‘follow this page’. You can post all the cool and creative content you want, but if you only have a few fans, no one is seeing it, and it seems to take quite a while for the snowball effect to take place. Perhaps the answer is incentives for becoming a fan…hmmm…
Thanks for the article, I liked the link to business apps as well.
Great point Megan, I’ve noticed that too! I love what Amber Weinberg did to encourage people to “Digg” her blog – she offered an incentive by offering a chance to win her copy of the book “Six Pixels of Separation”. I bet a similar method and creative thinking could be used to get people to become a fan of a business page on Facebook. It’s a low cost measure and I’m certain the return for her far outweighs her investment. Thanks for your feedback!!!
Just found another great resource for using Facebook for Business from Jennifer Laycock at Search Engine Guide. It’s called The Super Simple Guide to Setting Up Your First Company Facebook Page Without Blowing a Gasket.
