Yet another (Free) way to attract customers online. Small businesses can use Google Local listings to promote special offers, discounts and giveaways, offering Google searchers incentive to choose your business above your competition. By adding coupons to your listing in Google Maps, Google’s users can print your coupons and bring them to your business. Coupons will appear alongside your business listing on Google Maps. The more savings you offer, the more customers you’ll gain.

It’s free and it only takes a few minutes. Just enter a few lines of text for your coupon, set an expiration date, and tell Google which of your locations accept the coupon. Users will start seeing your coupons within a few hours.

To take advantage of this feature, login to your Google Local Business Center and look for “View Report”, to the right of your Local listing. You might want to check out the report while you are in there, as there should be some pretty neat stats on how often your local listing is getting shown/clicked on. From this page look for the blue tab above labeled “Coupons”. Choose “Add Coupon Now” and follow the instructions. Here’s the information you’ll need to set up a coupon for your local listing.

“…Post to your Place Page is nothing more than a Twitter-like status update box with a 160-character limit that updates your business listing with whatever current information you want to expose to the Google audience. You can access it from your Local Business Center dashboard when you’re logged in. Posts expire in 30 days, but it seems likely you’ll be able to delete outdated entries as well.”

Who does Google trust? Who do they love to get data from about your local hospitality business? With the new, expanded, 10-listing One Box now showing at the top of Universal search for so many local searches, and with number of reviews being given a prominent place in this new One Box, hotel and restaurant owners need to get those reviews pouring in if they want to win a spot in the A-J Top 10. It could mean the difference between a full house and ghostly silence in your place of business. Read the rest of the article here.

Here’s what the Google Local Listings look like for popular searches.

The neat thing about local search is you don’t even need a website to get some exposure online for your business – just make sure you claim your listings and provide accurate information on the many local search directories that are available. You do need a physical address for your business, not a P.O. Box.
